Kemerton Lectures Autumn 2026
Learn about unusual and unexpected aspects of our county in the Kemerton Lectures
autumn series beginning on Thursday 12 October. It will be given by Tony Conder, who
is a retired museum curator and now volunteers with Gloucester Civic Trust. He
researches Gloucester’s history and gives guided tours and talks about it.

15 Oct 2026: Gloucestershire Observed – 500 years of Journals and Diaries written in
or about the county,. highlighting the life of people
22 Oct 2026: Voices from Gloucester – 2000 years of the city’s history and Gloucester’s
place in the national story
29 Oct 2026: Gloucester and the Atlantic Slave Trade – an introduction to slavery and
a look at the people who made money locally and at the growth of opposition
12 Nov 2026: Maritime Gloucestershire – for a seemingly inland county Gloucester has
seaports, shipbuilders and mariners and a long history of trade
19 Nov 2026: Gloucestershire Comes to the Light – a surprising history of how
electricity came to the county
